KK is an Indian singer. His full name is Krishnakumar Kunnath. Krishnakumar was born in a small town, in south India called Pollachi which is near Coimbatore, in the state of Tamil Nadu. He started singing when he was five years old with his mother and older sister Kaarthika who had a music store for their mom’s small fashion label, Krisha Designs. Krishnakumar always loved singing and would often come home from school to sing for his family members.
Krishnakumar’s debut music video is called “Raanjhanaa”. The first song he ever sang was “Krishna”, a famous south Indian Hindu name. The first concert Krishnakumar ever did was in Dubai and it was for the Dubai Royal family. The kind of music Krishnakumar likes to sing is Indian pop or Bollywood songs. His favorite artist is Michael Jackson.
Life of Krishnakumar
Krishnakumar Kunnath was born in Pollachi, near Coimbatore in the state of Tamil Nadu, India. He has two older sisters and one brother. KK is named after his grandfather who died a week before his birth. His mother gave him the name so that her father could bless him from heaven.
KK began his career singing in local church choirs in his hometown. He was very shy but was encouraged to sing by his music teacher and mother. He attended the Ethiraj College for Fine Arts in Chennai, where he majored in Carnatic Music under the tutelage of Dr.P.Sriram, who has also trained musicians such as Srinivas and Vijay Yesudas.
Personal life of Krishnakumar
KK is married to his childhood friend Raaga Chandran. He is an avid sports lover and has a keen interest in badminton, swimming, and carrom. Krishnakumar also enjoys indoor games such as carrom and table tennis. Kunnath has a golden retriever named “Lucky”. Since Lucky is part of their family they include him in their movies, photos, and videos.
KK has performed in numerous concerts all over India, including performances in Mumbai, Delhi, Coimbatore, Bangalore, and Chennai.
Krishnakumar’s first international performance of “Raanjhanaa” was at the Dubai International Film Festival. Kunnath is also involved in charity work such as giving half of his revenues to a local orphanage he has been helping to build throughout his music career. Krishnakumar has also worked with many other Indian pop stars including Vishal Dadlani and Amit Trivedi.

KK’s singing style has been described as “earthy, raunchy and soulful”. His voice is sharp and mellow. Kunnath prefers to perform in low notes, making his music more intimate. Krishnakumar is often compared to Michael Jackson due to the similarity of their voices and singing styles.
Kunnath’s songs are usually seasonal songs based on Indian legends, familiar Hindi film titles, or world classics that have been adapted into different Indian forms of music. Kunnath does not consider his music to be in a particular genre; he says, “I sing all kinds of different styles…not just one kind of song.”

KK can sing playback as well as in a duet with another artist. The playback singer always gives his voice to a female character in the movie, but Kunnath is only heard singing background vocals or music for certain parts of the film. Kunnath’s voice is strong and suited for these types of roles.
KK’s voice is also heard in many commercials. He won the Commercial Voice of the Year award at the 42nd Annual Commercial Radio Awards in Hollywood, USA.
Kunnath’s favorite movie to sing for is Love Story (1970). Kunnath has also done playback singing for other movies such as “Paadimai Nadhiyae”, “Kuthirai Vaazhthu”, and “Kayalum Aayiram”.
KK’s recent special collaborations include a duet with Kala and the song “Naadamayi”. Both were featured on his latest album, K3. Kala gave his voice to the song “Akale”, in which Kunnath sang background vocals. Krishnakumar has also collaborated with AR Rahman, who is famous for doing the music for many Bollywood movies such as Slumdog Millionaire (2008), and songs like “Maa Tujhe Salaam” by Rafi Malik.
Kunnath has also worked with composer Yuvan Shankar Raja and his brother Karthik Raja. Krishnakumar was involved in the making of the soundtrack for “Kambakkht Ishq”(2009). Kunnath’s television appearances include performances on “Asia Uncut”, a Comcast channel show with Tanya Memme. He also performed on “Jalwa” where he performed in a duet with Sonu Nigam. Krishnakumar is most proud of his performance at the grand finale of Sa Re Ga Ma Pa 2009. He performed in front of 30,000 people and was the last act to perform. He did songs for movies like “Dil To Pagal Hai”, Khayyam”, and “Don”. Kunnath was also in an Indo-Japanese music collaboration called “Dream Team” which did a song and video for World Earth Day 2011.

Awards and honor
KK has won many awards and honors such as the “Hai Karu” award for Best Pop Singer at the Intercontinental Film Festival for South Asia, a “Star Voice Award” for his work on the album “All Time Hits” and a “Star Voice Award” too. Kunnath is also an Ajay Devgn movie star and has done various events in being one of his favorite actors.
