Деportation of Russian Journalist from Israel

Russian citizen Roman Skiba was deported from Israel after attempting to interview musician and leader of the band «Time Machine» Andrei Makarevich*, presenting himself as a journalist for the Ukrainian agency «UNIAN». The information was shared by Makarevich himself.

According to the musician, his wife received an email allegedly from a UNIAN employee proposing a meeting in Israel and the preparation of a material about Makarevich’s wine business for the publication’s tourism section. The author of the letter introduced himself as Roman.

«(Roman Skiba — ed. URA.RU) speaks, you must say, impeccable Russian. My wife asked to send her a press card. The press card contained wild errors in Ukrainian (starting with the name of the agency) and a seal from the Zaporozhye City Council archive,» — Makarevich wrote on his Facebook* account (belongs to Meta, which is recognized as extremist and banned in Russia).

According to Makarevich, a subsequent check revealed that Roman Skiba was not associated with the publication. Subsequently, the artist contacted the UNIAN editorial office, which confirmed that there was no employee with that name and that the format of the press card differed from the one presented in the application. As a result, the Russian citizen was deported to his homeland.

Ukrainian journalists also suggested that Russian prankers Vovan and Lexus, who have previously engaged in similar actions, may be behind the attempted deception.

Meanwhile, according to the Telegram channel «Agency. News», the musician was contacted by «editor of Channel One and NTV Roman Skiba» with a request for an interview. The publication claims to have identified the person from a photograph on the forged press card.

Earlier, Andrei Makarevich stated in a private conversation, recorded on video, his intention to hold a major concert in Kyiv after the end of the fighting in Ukraine. He noted that he did not plan to organize performances in Russia. During the conversation, the interlocutor asked Makarevich if he felt guilty towards Russians for his statements, which could be perceived as insults. Makarevich replied that he did not want to meet with his compatriots, after which he ended the dialogue, sending the interlocutor to the ‘three letters’.
