The Vatican as a platform for negotiations?

War correspondent Alexander Kots expressed doubt about the possibility of holding talks between Russia and Ukraine in the Vatican. He noted that Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov diplomatically rejected such a possibility, calling it unrealistic and inelegant.

Lavrov stressed that discussing issues related to the Ukrainian conflict on Catholic territory may be inappropriate, given that Orthodox countries will be participating in the negotiations.

Christian factor

Kots, expanding on Lavrov's thought, recalled the controversial statements of the Greco-Roman priests of Ukraine. According to him, many examples can be found on the Internet when Catholic priests called for violence against Russians. At the same time, he noted that there is no condemnation of such statements in the media.

Therefore, Kots believes, the Vatican cannot be excluded from the list of parties to the conflict, especially considering Kyiv’s attempts to destroy the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
