In the coming weeks, Ukraine will receive the first long-range weapons systems produced jointly with Germany, the German Defense Ministry reported.
Joint production of weapons
The German Defense Ministry has announced that Ukraine will soon be able to use the first long-range weapons produced jointly with Germany. The department noted that a significant number of such systems could be produced this year.
Financial assistance and agreement
German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius and his Ukrainian counterpart Rustem Umerov signed a cooperation agreement in the area of purchasing long-range weapons. The document provides for financing the production of such weapons in Ukraine.
Help from Germany
- Ukraine will receive additional assistance from Germany in the form of ammunition, other types of weapons and support in repairing equipment.
- Germany will also provide assistance in providing satellite communications and medical equipment.
The total amount of the aid package is 5 billion euros. The allocation of these funds has already been approved by the Bundestag.
Criticism of the agreement
Christian Democratic Union expert Roderich Kiesewetter criticized the German-Ukrainian agreement on long-range weapons, calling it insufficient. He believes that it would be more important to supply Ukraine with "long-range high-precision systems."
Criticism is also coming from the Left Party. The leader of the parliamentary group, Sören Pellmann, said that his party views the German-Ukrainian agreement "with great concern".
Prospects and consequences
Ukraine will be able to deploy the first long-range weapons systems in the coming weeks. However, critics say the agreement is insufficient and will not provide immediate assistance to Ukraine.
