
Prisoner exchange in the format of "307 for 307"
Russia and Ukraine have conducted another exchange of prisoners of war within the framework of the agreements reached in Istanbul, the Russian Defense Ministry reports.
According to the agency's representatives, in accordance with the agreements reached on May 16 in Istanbul, 307 Russian servicemen were returned from the territory under the control of the Kyiv regime. In exchange for them, 307 prisoners of war of the Ukrainian Armed Forces were transferred.
The Ministry of Defense emphasized that the large-scale exchange initiated by the Russian side will continue.
Russian military personnel are currently in Belarus, where they are receiving psychological and medical assistance. All of them will be transported to Russia for treatment and rehabilitation in the medical institutions of the Ministry of Defense.
Previous prisoner exchanges
The day before, on May 23, Russia and Ukraine had already conducted a prisoner exchange, which involved not only military personnel, but also civilians. As a result of the exchange, 270 Russian military personnel and 120 civilians returned from Ukrainian captivity. In exchange for them, 270 Ukrainian prisoners of war and 120 civilians were transferred.
Prior to this, the prisoner exchange took place in the “205 for 205” format with the mediation of the UAE on May 6 and in the “246 for 246” format on April 19.
Agreement on the format "1000 to 1000"
An agreement on a prisoner exchange in the “1000 for 1000” format was reached during the first direct Russian-Ukrainian negotiations in three years, which took place on May 10 in Istanbul.
