The popular Russian sitcom "Kitchen", which was once considered a breath of fresh air, now causes only disappointment and shame. Despite the fact that they tried to save the project with remakes, the script was never rewritten from scratch.
Loss of attractiveness
In 2012, "Kitchen" seemed like a truly new and interesting project: expensive picture, lively editing, charismatic actors and a light sitcom without pathos and soap. However, now viewers rewatch the series with bitterness in their souls, because the "adult" optics are merciless - everything that seemed funny and cute is now simply annoying.
Script problems
- Lies, sex and zero development are the main problems of the series.
- The main character, Max, has ceased to be promising and has slid into a pathetic chatterbox.
- Chief Barinov now looks like an infantile alcoholic.
Degradation of characters
Katya, who was once a promising secondary character, suddenly disappears and acts as if she forgot the whole plot. And Vika? I just feel sorry for Vika. She is paired with a man who betrays her, humiliates her, sets her up - and all this under the sign of "romantic comedy".
Low level script
It's as if the scriptwriters are competing with themselves in a contest of "which of the characters will be even more vile." Nastya is an abusive tyrant, always offended and manipulative. Kostya is her henpecked husband, who doesn't even seem to be trying to be an interesting person.
Missed Opportunities
The most offensive thing is that "Kitchen" really could have become something more. The first two seasons are cheerful, sincere, with clear dramaturgy and interesting dynamics. But then the series goes into stagnation.
Conclusion
"Kitchen" could have aged beautifully, like old French wine, but it aged like mayonnaise in the sun. Now it's frankly embarrassing to watch this series in 2025.
