Pyongyang expresses concerns over Golden Dome missile defense system
Pyongyang believes that the Golden Dome missile defense system being developed by the United States poses a security threat and could lead to a war in space, according to a statement by the Institute of US Affairs at the DPRK Foreign Ministry, distributed by the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).
According to the statement, the creation of the Golden Dome is another attempt to militarize space and seek dominance in this space, as was the case during the Cold War. The institute emphasizes that the system is not defensive, but is part of the US offensive weapons designed to carry out preemptive strikes against sovereign states.
China also calls on the US to abandon the missile defense system
Earlier, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning called on Washington to abandon the development and deployment of a global missile defense system. China believes that this system could undermine strategic mutual trust between great powers and lead to destabilization in the world.
The US has invested huge amounts of money into the missile defense system
US President Donald Trump previously announced that $14.5 billion would be allocated over the next three years for the development of the Golden Dome missile defense system.
