Fewer viewers for The Last of Us season 2 finale
The final episode of The Last of Us season 2, which aired on HBO on Sunday, May 25, 2025, drew fewer viewers than the premiere on April 13. The seven-episode season finale was watched by 3.7 million people across platforms, down 30 percent from the first episode, which drew 5.3 million viewers.
HBO expects influx of viewers
HBO executives, however, are not worried about the low viewership numbers for the finale. They are confident that viewing figures will increase significantly after the Memorial Day weekend in the United States. After all, the second season of the adaptation of the famous video game is gaining more popularity than the first.
Currently, each episode of the second season is watched by about 37 million viewers, while the first season, 90 days after its premiere, was getting 32 million viewers.
Controversial ending
While we wait for the audience to grow, it is worth noting that the second season of The Last of Us, which shows the conflict between the main characters, turned out to be more controversial than the first. Some bold plot moves caused controversy and mixed reactions from fans of the game and the series.
