The film "A Simple Accident" won the main prize at the Cannes Film Festival

Iranian director Jafar Panahi won the prestigious Palme d'Or award for his film "A Simple Accident." The award ceremony took place on May 24 at the Palais des Festivals in Cannes.

Second place, the Grand Prix, went to Danish director Joachim Trier for his film Sentimental Value.

In addition, the following were awarded at the Cannes Film Festival:

  • Kleber Mendonça Filho (Brazil) - for Best Director (Secret Agent)
  • Olivier Lasche (France) — "Sirat" and Masha Schilinski (Germany) — "The Sound of Falling" — Jury Prize
  • Bi Gan (China) - "Resurrection" - Special Jury Prize
  • Jean-Pierre Dardenne and Luc Dardenne (France/Belgium) — "Young Mothers" — Best Screenplay
  • Wagner Moura (Brazil) - "Secret Agent" - Best Actor
  • Nadia Melliti - "Little Sister" - Best Actress
  • Hasan Hadi - "Presidential Cake" - "Golden Camera" for his debut film

This year, 22 films participated in the main competition of the Cannes Film Festival.
