Dinesh Karthik is an Indian cricketer who plays mainly as a batsman. After making his One-day International debut in 2006, Karthik became India’s preferred wicketkeeper for the Twenty20 international format and was eventually awarded the position for the Test team. He is also a part of Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League ( IPL).
Karthik has been awarded “Best Twenty20 International Player” and ” ICC Emerging Player of The Year 2007″. He also played a pivotal role in India lifting their first major international tournament trophy by winning the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy.

Life of Karthik
His birth
Dinesh Karthik was born on June 1, 1985, in Madras in Tamil Nadu, but grew up in Chennai. He started playing cricket at the age of eight and is a batsman.
Dinesh’s father Mr. G.Karthik played cricket for the Services team. His mother Mrs. Sujatha was a member of the Indian national field hockey team that won two gold medals in Asian Games (1978 & 1982).
Dinesh’s education
Karthik completed his schooling at Don Bosco Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Egmore, Chennai, and then graduated from Loyola College with an engineering degree. Dinesh Karthik has an engineering degree from the Birla Institute of Technology and Science.
Career
He played his first First-Class cricket match at the age of 17, in July 2002. Karthik was signed by the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association during the 2006–07 Ranji Trophy second-round match against Andhra, which was his debut ODI. The wicketkeeper-batsman made his international debut against Bangladesh in February 2007 and kept the wicket for a record 300th time in ODIs against Australia. He is only the fourth Indian to score two centuries on his Test debut.
Domestic career
In the subsequent 2007–08 Ranji Trophy season Karthik scored 680 runs at an average of 176.00, coming fifth in the batting averages and making his first hundred against Andhra.[6] He was select for the national team in January 2008, after being select for the quadrangular series against West Indies A.
Ranji Trophy
In the 2008/09 season, he played for Tamil Nadu in the Ranji Trophy and scored 583 runs at an average of 82.33. During the same season, he was also select for the Indian team for the Duleep Trophy tournament.
International career
Karthik made his One-Day International debut against Bangladesh in February 2007 and kept wicket during a record 300th ODI cap against Australia in December 2007. Karthik include in India’s Test squad against England in August 2008, making his debut as a batsman against them. During November 2009, Karthik scored his maiden Test century against West Indies at Ahmedabad. However, he is only the fourth Indian to score a century in each innings on his ODI debut. Karthik played a crucial role in India winning their first major international tournament the ICC Champions Trophy by scoring 61 runs against Sri Lanka in the Final.
Karthik was also instrumental in India’s 2010 ICC World Twenty20 campaign. Including three vital knocks to help India beat Pakistan, South Africa, and England respectively. Therefore, in the 2010–11 Ranji trophy season he came back strongly with three centuries. As a result he hit two consecutive centuries against Gujarat and Saurashtra. But unfortunately could not play a significant part in the Tamil Nadu Ranji Trophy campaign. Which got over early due to Tamil Nadu being out of contention after two successive losses against Karnataka and Mumbai.
Test career
In his second Test match, he scored a century against the West Indies at Nagpur. He was the second Indian – after Sachin Tendulkar. To score a century on debut in a foreign country (outside Asia) against the West Indies.
Karthik hit his second international century in the first Test against England on 28 February 2009 at Mohali. Karthik’s contribution of 68 not out off 118 balls. And an impressive 148 by Gautam Gambhir ensured that India registered their first win in almost two years over England.
